DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Insulation professional Nicholas Forehand of Orchard Park, N.Y.-based Northwind Insulation was named “America’s Best Insulation Installer” at the 2013 America’s Best Installer competition on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Denver, Colo. More than 20 of the country’s top insulation professionals competed in a fast-paced, head-to-head competition highlighting how properly installed insulation leads to more comfortable, energy-efficient homes.

Created in 2003 by Denver-based building products manufacturer Johns Manville and Insulate America, the America’s Best Installer competition emphasizes the importance of a quality insulation installation. As winner of the 2013 Best Installer title, Forehand was awarded $10,000.

“Best Installer is a one-of-a-kind competition for insulation professionals, so it’s a great honor to compete against the best,” said Forehand. “I’m thankful for this recognition and to have the chance to meet with and learn from my peers.”

During the finals, each of the competitors took a turn installing batt insulation products into a mock building complete with construction obstacles, including an arched window, electrical outlets, pipes and a vaulted ceiling. A panel of professional judges evaluated the competitors’ performance using criteria relevant to a real job site, including quality of workmanship, adherence to safety rules, speed/productivity and the amount of scrap material they created.

“Nicholas is at the top of his profession, and Insulate America is thrilled to recognize him as the country’s best insulation installer for 2013,” said David Beam, president and CEO of Insulate America. “Through our partnership with Johns Manville, the competition has been able to grow into a nationally recognized program distinguishing installers, like Nicholas, who continue to raise the bar for the entire industry.”

The competition also recognized runner-up Alex Franco of Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Homeowner’s Insulation, who received a $5,000 cash prize, and third-place finalist Jesus Campanero of Chico, Calif.-based Loerke Insulation, who received a $2,500 cash prize.

“Each year we look forward to seeing the best of the best compete and showcase the industry’s best practices,” said Dud Colton, manager of national accounts for Johns Manville. “Over the past 11 years, America’s Best Installer has been a great platform to provide well-deserved recognition to the skilled installers who continue to improve the quality of installations for more energy efficient homes.”
